Abstract

Firm-specific factors affect decisions about capital structure. Recent research has examined the financial leverage impact on firm performance. Most studies have considered only non-financial firms and the textile industry. A few investigations have been done in Pakistan's oil and gas sector. As this sector attracts investors, the factors influencing capital structure choices must be considered. In this research, we study firmspecific factors. Specifically, we examine the effect of asset structure, financial distress (earning volatility), non-debt tax shield, liquidity, firm size, profitability, and firm growth on capital structure decisions. For this analysis, data ranging from 2007 – 2021 of the firms in Pakistan's oil and gas sector are used. The pool regression approach is applied. As per the results, tangibility and liquidity have a negative connection, non-debt tax shields, and firm size directly affect profitability, and growth does not impact the capital structure. Abstract

This study used financial socialization theory to examine the direct and indirect association between financial socialization (from parents, peers, and teachers) and financial well-being (FWB) via financial self-efficacy (FSE). Data were collected from Pakistan in early 2020. Our data analysis using the partial least square structural equation modeling approach revealed surprising results. We found that an association between financial socialization from peers and FWB does not exist both directly and indirectly via FSE. Furthermore, the results showed that the association of financial socialization from parents and teachers with FWB is completely mediated by FSE. Other results indicated partial mediation of FSE in the association between early childhood consumer experience and FWB. Our findings imply that learning from others' financial experiences builds young consumers' confidence in dealing with financial matters, which, in turn, helps improve their FWB. We suggest policymakers to consider these findings in designing policies related to the young consumers of developing nations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Background: In the present situation where there is a water shortage globally, nanoparticles can play a vital role in treating wastewater to make it usable for several processes. Industrial wastewater contains numerous heavy metals and associated wastes that enter our food chain by one means or other. This article provides a review of applications of nanoparticles in wastewater treatment and highlights the significance of photocatalytic nanoparticles in general. Methods: Online journals and books related to wastewater treatment using nanoparticles are reviewed to compile their essentials findings. General mechanisms, applications, limitations, and comparison of photocatalytic nanoparticles are reviewed as well. Results: A study of photocatalytic nanoparticles shows that TiO2 and ZnO nanoparticles have excellent photocatalytic capabilities as compared to other nanoparticles due to their bandgap properties; however, the usage of these nanoparticles is limited since there is higher recombination rate of electrons and holes in photocatalysis. Further, individual limitations also exist as TiO2 is inoperable in the visible light region. So, their heterostructures with other nanoparticles have been developed to overcome their limitations. Other nanoparticles, like noble metals, and those like CuO, CeO2, SnO2 have potential in carrying out photocatalytic degradation of contaminants of wastewaters. Conclusion: Several contaminants can be eliminated from wastewater bodies using photocatalytic nanoparticles. The efficiency of photocatalytic nanoparticles can be enhanced by coupling them with suitable species. Research in this area can prevent the water shortage of upcoming years.
